Dr. Trudy Eagan Women in Business Speakers' Series

Dr. Trudy Eagan is well known to the St. Francis Xavier community as a business leader, a community advocate, a Xaverian, a mentor and a friend. As a former STFX student and honorary degree recipient, Dr. Trudy Eagan has expressed her strong connection to our Xaverian family in many ways. The Women in Business Speakers' Series is one example of her commitment and generosity to St. Francis Xavier University
Dr. Trudy Eagan spent her 28-year career with Sun Media Corporation, Canada’s largest publishing company; rising to the position of Executive Vice-President and Chief Administrative Officer. She left Sun Media in 2002 to pursue her keen interest in giving back to her community and to mentor young women in business. Eagan has been recognized numerous times for her contributions to the newspaper industry. Most notably, she was the first woman to sit on the Board of Governors of the Canadian Newspaper Association; and the first woman to be appointed to the Board of Directors of Sun Media Corporation. In 2002, Eagan received the prestigious Woman of Distinction Award in Media.
Eagan was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws in 1999 from St. FX and has served for two terms on the University’s Board of Governors . In 2010, Eagan proudly attended the official opening of the Schwartz School of Business which houses the Dr. Trudy Eagan Lecture Hall. Eagan’s interest in philanthropy resulted in the Founding of Sheena’s Place, Canada’s first support centre offering hope and support to those affected by eating disorders. She also serves as Chair of the Board of the Arthritis Research Foundation within the University Health Network in Toronto. Most recently, Eagan became a Founder and Chair of the Board of McDermott House Canada. MHC is a registered charity dedicated to Serving those who Serve. Its mission is to promote the highest quality of life for veterans, military, first responders and community patients facing the final stage of a terminal illness. Its vision is to set the standard for premier end-of-life care in Canada.
